1979 : Quand Paris accueillait le tout premier championnat de France de DJ.

En 1979, des DJ affamés de compétition se retrouvaient au Golf Drouot, temple parisien du rock et des yéyé, pour en découdre lors du premier championnat de France de DJ. Durant plusieurs week-ends, les platinistes se sont affrontés à coups de mix ouverts et ultra-chronométrés. Avec pour le meilleur d’entre eux, le titre de champion à la clef.

La vague disco déferle sur le Golf.
Premier du genre, le Championnat de France des DJ s’est déroulé dans une discothèque dont le succès s’est bâti sur des riffs de guitares. Surnommé «  Le Temple du rock », le Golf Drouot a connu des heures glorieuses, en accueillant entre ses murs Johnny Hallyday, Eddy Mitchell ou encore les Who et David Bowie.
Mais en 1979, le club est au crépuscule de son histoire. Face à une concurrence ardue et à l’arrivée des chaînes hi-fi, il cherche à se renouveler. De son côté, Mitsou, fondateur de la Formation Nationale des DJ (FNDJ) a pour ambition de créer une compétition qui réunirait des DJ de tout l’Hexagone. Il se rapproche alors du Golf Drouot, qu’il connait bien puisqu’il s’est déjà retrouvé derrière les platines du lieu, quelques années plus tôt. « J’avais sympathisé avec Henri Leproux, le patron emblématique du Golf Drouot. Cette discothèque, c’était une institution, un club mythique. L’endroit parfait pour organiser ce premier Championnat de France des DJ », lance Mitsou, devenu par la suite un animateur star sur les ondes de NRJ.
